Inherited Matter—A Finite Resource is a collaboration between Libia Castro og Ólafur Ólafsson og Flétta

Inherited Matter—A Finite Resource places personal material reserves in the context of broader reflections on the limits of the earth’s resources, circular economies, care, intergenerational connections, shared copyright, collective authorship, and transdisciplinary work. The project is rooted in a material reserve, various types of wood and metal, that the craftsman, teacher, metalsmith, and turner Ólafur Andrés Guðmundsson left behind when he passed away in 2024. The work connects close family history, love, and a shared material context, raising questions about what it means to inherit not just objects but materials, about their finitude, spirit and the potentiality of reuse, and its further transformation. The project, conceived as a long-term collaborative project, is based on creative dialogue, reuse, craftsmanship, vision, and connections between generations, disciplines, and material cycles.
