Einkennisfatnaður Icelandair hefur flogið út um allan heim og þjónað hlutverki sínu í fjölda ára. Þegar nýr einkennisfatnaður tók við árið 2023, var mikilvægt að í stað þess að skapa textílúrgang væri borin virðing fyrir eldri fatnaðinum, bæði efninu sjálfu og hlutverki hans, og honum skapað spennandi og viðeigandi framhaldslíf.

Samstarf Stúdíó Fléttu og Icelandair hófst árið 2024. Þá var haldin sýningin Snúningur þar sem eldri einkennisfatnaði Icelandair var breytt í fagrar töskur. Unnið var með þá hugmynd að hægt væri að breyta öllum efniviðnum; pífum, höttum, bindum og beltum, aftur í fyrra form.

Púðarnir eru saumaðir með bútasaumi, og efninu þannig sýnd virðing með gamalgróinni endurnýtingaraðferð. Klæði sem hafa alltaf verið á ferð og flugi öðlast nú nýtt hlutverk.

Icelandair's uniforms have traveled the world and served us for many years. When new uniforms were introduced in 2023, it was important that instead of creating textile waste, we respected the retired uniform and gave it new life.

The collaboration between Icelandair and Studio Flétta began in 2024 with the Turnaround exhibition, in which the uniform was transformed into a series of bags. The idea was that the materials used, hats, belts, and ties, could all be returned to their former shape.

The series continues, and the retired uniform is again sent on a news journey. This year, utilizing a different methodology, the materials were cut, tailored, and utterly transformed into a series of decorative pillows threaded with an element of history.
